S1001 INTEGRATED SYSTEM

New Paragraph

S1001 INTEGRATED SYSTEM TESTING

CAN/ULC-S1001 is a Canadian standard that outlines the methodology for proper integration between fire protection and life safety systems. It requires operational and situational testing of integrations. Integrated systems testing is mandatory when constructing or making changes to integrated fire protection and/or life safety systems, as per building permits effective from June 2020 across Canada. CAN/ULC-S1001 applies to both existing and new buildings. New buildings listed under S-1001 must undergo re-evaluation by an authorized certificate issuing firm at 1 and 5 years to maintain certification, and at 5 years for retrofit projects.

The integrated test encompasses various systems, including but not limited to:

  1. Transmissions with fire signal receiving center (e.g., receipt of signals)
  2. Mass notification systems
  3. Elevators (e.g., proper recall)
  4. Emergency generators (e.g., startup test, loss of power simulations)
  5. A/V and lighting control systems
  6. Notification systems
  7. Sprinkler systems
  8. Standpipe systems
  9. Fire pumps
  10. Water supplies (testing responses to pressure sensors, level sensors, etc.)
